On January 13, 2015, PacificSource Medicare mailed a clarification letter, intended for specialists, regarding members who switched from a PPO plan to an HMO plan on January 1. This letter explained that the new plan requires referrals to see specialists. The letter also provided information on how to verify that referral approval is in place.
The letter's subject line read: Re: Inaccurate information sent to you
This letter was sent to primary care providers and certain specialists in error.
We apologize for any confusion this may have caused you or your office staff.
To verify if your patient's PacificSource Medicare plan requires referrals, please review the front of their 2015 member ID card. The ID card will show if referrals are required (see sample below).
